Good Morning,
We are attaching a document from the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development (MLTSD) in regards to masking and eye wear if workers must work within two meters of one another.
The key points are summarized below:
- The employer must conduct a risk assessment to determine the appropriate level of eye protection and masking.
- Source control masking may not be appropriate if a worker is performing tasks that require additional respiratory protection.
- Eye protection must apply appropriate protection against droplet exposure.
- Prescription eye wear may be the appropriate level of protection if they are tight fitting, provide good coverage to the eyes and also have side shields.
- Prescription eye wear without the above noted features are not considered appropriate, but could be supplemented with a face shield or other eye protection.
- If another hazard is identified beyond COVID-19, the appropriate level of eye protection must be used to protect against the hazard while still protecting against COVID-19.
Additionally, please continue to advise members that they must comply with all COVID-19 workplace protocols. This includes following appropriate physical distancing, (including during smoke breaks and lunch breaks) and wearing appropriate facial coverings at all other times.
If you require additional clarification please contact Carmine Tiano at carmine@ontariobuildingtrades.com or on his cell phone at (416) 899-7913.
Thank you,
