Election Guidelines

No candidate and no supporter of any candidate may use the SMART logo, any variations of the former SMWIA logo, or any Local 30 logo in any campaign literature, paraphernalia or electronic media used to endorse such candidates.

No candidate and no supporter of any candidate may solicit or accept financial support, or any other direct or indirect support of any kind from any non-member, associate member or honorary member, except an individual’s own volunteered personal time.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, candidates should refrain from visiting job sites and shops to campaign.  Candidates are permitted to have their campaign literature distributed by other members on job sites or in shops at which those other members are employed, but only during non-working hours.

At all times candidates should comply with all COVID-19 public health guidelines.

The Local 30 website will be available for each candidate to post one sheet of campaign literature.  Candidates will be notified of the date of posting.  To be posted, literature must be received by the Judge via e-mail by May 20, 2021.  The Judge’s email address is shank2181@rogers.com.

During the election period it is important that members use social media responsibly.  Responsible social media activity can educate, inform and foster lively debate, while inappropriate online conduct can harm individuals and damage Local 30’s reputation.  Members are not to use language or images on social media which are inaccurate, offensive, demeaning or discriminatory.  In the interests of a fair election, members are encouraged to allow open access to social media platforms that they may operate.

Due to COVID-19 public health guidelines, there may be restrictions on the number of scrutineers who are permitted entry into the room where the count takes place.  Scrutineers not permitted into the room will be provided virtual access.  Scrutineers must remain for the entire count.

No mobile communication devices shall be permitted during the count.

The designated scrutineer of each candidate shall provide their name and telephone number to the Judge via e-mail on or before May 18, 2021.

Please refer to the Local 30 By-Laws for other election guidelines.
