Sheet Metal Bargaining update TENTATIVE AGREEMENT REJECTED

NOTICE TO ALL MEMBERS IN ICI SHEET METAL

SHEET METAL ICI BARGAINING UPDATE

TENTATIVE AGREEMENT REJECTED

May 17, 2022

Mississauga, ON –     The Ontario Sheet Metal Workers’ and Roofers’ Conference has tallied the ballots from the Ratification Meetings held throughout Ontario during the past week.  All SMWIA Local Unions (30, 47, 235, 269, 397, 473, 504, 537 and 562) held Ratification Meetings and Votes to ratify the Tentative Agreement

Members working under the Sheet Metal ICI Collective Agreement from across Ontario have voted by a wide margin to reject the Tentative Agreement.  In doing so the members have sent a clear message to the Negotiating Committee and the Contractors’ Association that the Tentative Agreement was simply insufficient to address the dramatic increases to our members’ cost of living.

The Negotiating Committee has contacted the Contractors’ Association and has scheduled negotiations to recommence negotiations as early as possible.  Bargaining will resume throughout the week of May 22 to 29, 2022.  If we cannot reach a new Tentative Agreement it may be necessary to commence a lawful strike.

At this time all members working in ICI Sheet Metal should continue to report to work as scheduled.

Further updates will be communicated to members as new information becomes available.

In solidarity,

Sheet Metal Negotiating Committee.
